Women’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Classes in New Braunfels

At SBG New Braunfels we are lucky to have Kaylee Heinz as a full time coach. Every Saturday she runs a spectacular women’s only class to address the needs of our female students.

That being said, our general philosophy is that people need to be prepared for all types of challenges so the majority of our classes are coed. We endeavor to have women train together in those classes whenever possible and most of the time women are paired together but we never force anything. When learning to move other people it’s best to begin with someone relatively similar in size and general athleticism so our pairing practices are the same for men or women.

Statistically speaking, males are more likely to initiate assaults of all types so we take women’s self defense very seriously and our foundations program in particular is designed to address all statistically significant areas of assault with the goal of technically escaping those scenarios as the first option. When escape is not possible, we show how to stop assailants with an emphasis on chokes over joint locks to ensure the fastest resolution of conflict.

One of the most impressive aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for self defense is the control of violent escalation on the part of the practitioner. It is possible with Jiu Jitsu to finish someone with relatively little damage being done but this does not preclude the possibilities of increasing violent output as required to ensure the survival of yourself or a loved one.
